Barney Miller’s began in 1922 on Main Street in Lexington. Founder Barney Miller was selling basic auto parts. Soon cars started including some of those accessories and he began to look in outer directions. Barney was an MIT graduate and HAM Radio operator in the Army Sigma Corps. Seeing a good business option, he stocked and sold the first radio in Kentucky. This began a career in electronics.

In 1939, Barney Miller’s moved into its current location. That year, Barney and his 17 year old son, Harry, went to the World’s Fair in New York. There, they saw RCA’s demonstration of television. They knew at that time that they were on to something big. They wasted no time in ordering some 10” black & white sets. Harry sold the first TV in Kentucky to Warren Wright Jr. at Calumet Farm for $600.

Barney Miller’s continued to lead the area in technology sales through the years. A large record department, commercial installations and antennas were all part of the mix.

Fast forward to 1979 when grandson Barney Miller started with the company. Barney became president in the mid 1980’s and has led a complete makeover of the company from a mostly retail format to a design, programming and installation format.

Barney continued to stay on the cutting edge of technology while providing the best in customer service and a well trained staff.
